Do you ever get hate mail? We do. Every week.
There are some people who not only despise our state, but take our love for its history as a sign of questionable parentage or even sociopathy.
Virtually none of the these messages are worth sharing, but once in a while we get something really special.
I received the following email Sunday evening in response to the message I sent out March 6, titled "Remembering the Alamo - 177 Years Later."
It's from a "retired real estate developer," who also happens to be a former Governor of the California State Bar and a former Los Angeles City Commissioner.
Here it is, unedited, in it's entirety:
"Can I vote for Death ?? A Few More Dead Texans is a Step in the Right Direction !!!!!!!
Those Texans give their Lives for FREEDOM ?????? NO !!!! They did it in the Name of Westward EXPSANSION and CONQUEST.
Give Texas back to Mexico !!!!!!!!! We Should have Never “Adopted” it in the First Place, those “Ingrates” !!!!!
Texas, The State , whose Greatest Celebration Commemorates NOT Only a DEFEAT, But a MASSACRE !!!! What a Sense of Humor !!!
The Alamo, Prelude to a History of Retard Shitkickers !!!!!"
First, let me say, to decry westward expansion while living the good life as a "retired real estate developer" on the WEST coast, might be a tad hypocritical.
Second, and more importantly, you need to know this is what we're up against. If you show pride in your Texas heritage, sooner or later, you will come under attack.
The forces of homogenization are on the march, and they get nutty when you don't conform. Not just regular nutty. Mean nutty.
My usual response it to laugh at them. Michelle is more inclined to give 'em a verbal whoopin'.
However you choose to respond when you come under fire, you need to know it's going to get worse before it get's better.
As a proud Texan you are now part of a resistance movement.
